ACHE Congress

This year, the MHA program sent ten students to the ACHE’s Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago. Over 4,000 current and future healthcare leaders participated, including fellow students, hospital executives, and university administrators. Congress provided a week-long program of informational seminars, hot topic sessions, networking opportunities, career building, and resume reviews for its participants. Popular seminars and topics among our student attendees included: strategic career planning, tools for a young professionals toolkit, making sense of MACRA, and reducing length of stay without compromising quality.

Second year student Tracy Valero stated that, “the tools available to students, such as the resume review, career advice, and networking opportunities are invaluable for MHA students to prepare them for their future careers in health administration.” Her favorite seminar was on building and sustaining an effective quality and patient safety program for financial health. Several students even had the opportunity to see David Rubenstein, who visited the program this past fall, present “Tools for a Young Professional’s Toolkit: Making the Transition from Student to Executive.”

The MHA program organized a no-host dinner for alumni and students at the Village Italian Restaurant. Alumni attendees included: Clay Locklear MHA ‘03, Roba Ghanayem MHA ‘08, and Brent Shive MBA ‘99. The MHA students in attendance had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Ms. Ghanayem about her current position as an Institute Administrator for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. She also spoke about her time as a fellow and what it is like to live abroad in Abu Dhabi.
