Internship Spotlight: Jason Panetta
Jason Panetta recently completed his internship with Novant Health. He worked primarily with the supply chain sector at Presbyterian Medical Center, but also spent time at the Novant Logistics Center in Kannapolis. Novant stores all of the supplies for its system at the Logistic Center until they are distributed to the various facilities. Jason helped standardize how Novant Health handles expired goods across all its facilities. He received hands on experience working with the supply chain employees.
To accomplish his internship objectives, Jason met with project team members, worked with supply chain staff at various Novant Health locations, and traveled to Rowan Medical Center and Thomasville Medical Center (two of the hospitals in the system) to learn about their expired goods processes. Through these experiences, Jason received an in-depth understanding of supply chain management. With this knowledge, he created a series of documents, including official corporate policy, an outline of Novant’s supply chain process, a flowchart of the process, and an expired product log to be presented to all supply chain managers. In addition, he used the log to track financial burden of expired goods throughout the system.
During his internship, Jason enjoyed being able to explore the different areas of supply chain, traveling to different hospital locations, and the important professional connections he made. His one regret was not having the opportunity to visit Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, which is the largest Novant hospital. Through his internship, Jason developed skills in communication, teamwork, research, and turning ideas into reality. In the future, he plans to work in supply chain and he challenges himself to make a strong impact on health care.
