World Affairs Council of Charlotte Luncheon

Categories: Uncategorized

The World Affairs Council of Charlotte (WACC) is a local chapter of an organization that educates our community on world issues and promotes global thinking. On October 8th, eight first-year MHA students represented UNC Charlotte during a WACC sponsored event, “Carolinas HealthCare System: Local Roots Global Impact” hosted by Carolinas HealthCare Systems CEO, Mr. Michael Tarwater.

Students were able to learn about the global impact CHS has had in Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe. In collaboration with the Heineman Foundation, CHS has developed an International Medical Outreach Program to provide educational assistance for these areas as well as develop a system to donate unused medical equipment from our local healthcare facilities. Mr. Tarwater emphasized the importance of contributing globally as well as demonstrating how to contribute now. The MHA students were able to ask Mr. Tarwater questions regarding the impact of these programs as well as offer their support.

The MHA students also learned that the WACC also has a division in Charlotte geared toward young professionals interested in global affairs, The Magellan Society. This group holds monthly events and offers complimentary membership to the WACC.
