Welcome, Dean Catrine!

In August 2019, we welcomed Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke as the new Dean of the College of Health and Human Services. Dean Tudor-Locke, who prefers to be known as Dean Catrine (and has the name tag to prove it), joined UNC Charlotte from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she served as the Associate Dean for Research and Administration in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences.

Dean Catrine is an accomplished researcher and academic, with over 300 peer-reviewed articles, mostly focused on physical activity and health, including an emphasis on measurement through wearable technologies. She is an elected fellow to the National Academy of Kinesiology and is an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, and the International Society for Physical Activity and Health. She is also considered a research active administrator meaning she is still actively conducting research and advising doctoral students within the College of Health and Human Services.

Since joining the UNC Charlotte community, Dean Catrine has hosted various listening sessions with faculty and staff to learn more about the campus culture. Using these experiences, Dean Catrine is interested in continuing the “business of transforming lives” culture that has become so evident to her throughout these past few weeks.

As a first-generation, low-income college student, Dean Catrine faced many obstacles throughout her journey to success; a fundamental reason behind her desired legacy to have her “mentees achieve things beyond what she has.” Dean Catrine is always looking for new ways to reinvent and challenge herself which is why she is interested in launching a “Kindness Campaign” throughout the college in the future. This campaign, which will mirror the Pay it Forward mindset, is Dean Catrine’s way of fostering a culture of kindness among students, faculty, and staff within the College of Health and Human Services.
