MHA Program Hosts Former Chief of U.S. Army Medical Service Corp
The UNC Charlotte Master’s in Health Administration program this month hosted a visit with Major General (retired) David M. Rubenstein, who shared his thoughts on the new healthcare executive and reshaping of the public health industry.
In a forum attended by more than 50 public health graduate students and faculty, Rubenstein outlined approaches for students studying for a career in what he called an “industry in flux”, noting that today’s models for healthcare providers differ widely from those of the past. Rubenstein highlighted veterans’ health and the health of the Hispanic population as issues of emerging prominence in the industry.
Rubenstein previously commanded the U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School and served as the 16th Chief of the Army Medical Service Corps. He also has served as the Army’s Deputy Surgeon General. Rubenstein is a Fellow and Past Chairman of the now 40,000 member American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations.
Major General Rubenstein’s visit included a breakfast and discussion of leadership in health care with the Greater Charlotte Healthcare Executives Group, meetings with UNC Charlotte’s 49er Battalion Army ROTC program.
