Alumni Update: Joseph Cherian
Joseph Cherian, MHA ‘13, currently works for PMMC as a Senior Account Manager. He is primarily responsible for ensuring that PMMC’s clients receive value from PMMC’s contract management solutions and services. This position requires him to build strong relationships with clients. Joseph also helps clients to identify their specific and constantly evolving revenue cycle challenges and to respond with meaningful, data driven solutions and recommendations. Key areas Joseph works with his clients on are payment denial management, revenue integrity, accounts receivable, payer performance reporting, and simulating proposed payer contracts.
Joseph enjoys that PMMC allows him the opportunity to provide meaningful, value-added support to his clients. He enjoys simplifying the intricate and confusing aspects of the revenue cycle for them. Joseph also enjoys the daily challenges and the opportunity to constantly learn something new.
When Joseph started the MHA program in 2010, he was a shift coordinator at Novant Health’s laboratory services. In 2012, through a MHA career fair, he secured a position as a Contract Analyst with PMMC. After several years in this position, he started supporting PMMC’s hospital clients as a Client-Support Analyst. For the past two years, Joseph has served in his current position of Senior Account Manager.
Joseph believes our MHA program helped him gain the important skill of critical thinking. Our program also provided him a better understanding of the relationship between clinical performance and reimbursement. For future MHA graduates, Joseph suggests that students take every opportunity they can to learn something new and to understand the changing focus of healthcare. He also stressed the importance of keeping in contact with peers, as they can create important connections for the future.
